The Nigerian Navy has confirmed that all personnel involved in the 10 April 2026 clash with Nigerian Army troops in Bayelsa State have been identified and taken into custody, with disciplinary procedures already underway.

In a statement issued by the Command’s Information Officer, Commander R.A. Iginla, said the incident, which was captured in a viral video circulating on social media, does not reflect the cooperation and joint operational spirit between the two services.

“All personnel directly involved have been identified, taken into custody and are undergoing the necessary administrative procedures in line with extant military regulations and disciplinary frameworks,” Iginla stated.

He added that additional measures are being implemented to ensure accountability, prevent a recurrence, and reinforce inter-service harmony.

The Commander emphasized that the Armed Forces of Nigeria remain a unified and professional institution bound by a common mandate to defend the nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

He noted that the Nigerian Navy and Nigerian Army continue to operate in close synergy and mutual respect in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities.

“The unfortunate incident does not in any way reflect the enduring spirit of cooperation and jointness that exists among the Services,” the statement read.

Iginla reaffirmed the Armed Forces’ commitment to professionalism, discipline, and the ethical standards that define the military profession.

He urged members of the public to remain calm and continue supporting security agencies in their efforts to maintain peace, security, and stability nationwide.
